Education programmes

The Chennai Snake Park is actively involved in imparting knowledge about Indian herpetofauna to the public. We conduct regular education programmes to students from academic institutions and other organizations, if any. Most of these are certified programmes, with the participants receiving due certificates in the end. Our education programmes are tailored to cater to the needs of various end users. The Dy.Director-cum-Research Scientist conducts regular education programmesto students from academic institutions and other organizations, if any. College students (UG, PG and higher courses in Zoology) – High-level herpetology including theory classes and practical sessions, covering topics such as systematics, ethology, natural history, biogeographyand scientific writing. Veterinary students are also welcome to network with us for conservation and husbandry-oriented projects aiming at improved health of our captive stock.

School students and general public – basic topics such as ecological value of snakes, their conservation importance, snakebite, first-aid and management.

Uniform staff (Forest Dept., Fire and Rescue Services, Army, Security guards) – awareness programme on man-snake conflict mitigation, proper snake removal and relocation techniquesand snakebite, first-aid and management.

Any other specific or specialized programmes will also be considered on a case by case basis and the contents customized to meet such specific demands.
